Our Purpose
The Sheboygan Area School District, with other community agencies, shares in the responsibility of promoting and developing the general physical, mental, and emotional well being of the citizenry and in the responsibility for the formation of community attitudes towards leisure time activities. To this end the Sheboygan Area School District has created the Community Recreation Department whose purpose is to serve as a catalyst in the development, initiation, coordination and the support for a variety of leisure time activities and facilities for residents of all ages.

Our Goals
To fulfill this purpose the Community Recreation Department has established the following goals:

1. To educate the community on the importance of participating in and providing wholesome activities

Personal growth and development are continuous and life-long processes that take place in a variety of experiences. The Community Recreation Department informs the public as to the personal value of recreation. Individual enrichment enhances the quality of the community.

2. To educate the community on the importance of personal fitness and to provide personal fitness programs

The maintenance of proper fitness enables one to more fully enjoy life. The department helps individuals develop desirable attitudes, habits and skills, endurance, coordination, and agility, in order that they may maintain physical health on as high an individual level as possible.

3. To provide instructional, competetive and recreational opportunities in individual and team sports

The Community Recreation Department provides opportunity for various levels of instruction and competition. Programs are planned to teach basic skills, to improve the participant's enjoyment, and to encourage sportsmanship and team play.

4. To provide a wide range of instructional, competetive and recreational aquatic activities

Aquatic activities are a major recreational activity enjoyed by all ages. A prime concern is the education for the safe and wise use of our natural and man-made water resources.

5. To provide for the enjoyment of cultural and artistic activities

Awareness of and appreciation for the arts are vital links to the development of the whole person. The department supports the development of arts related activities.

6. To provide opportunity for the participation in non-competetive activities

Leisure time interests vary according to the individuals within a community. The Community Recreation Department provides a diversified program of activities to serve the interests of the community.

7. To provide for the planned development of recreation facilities to meet the recreation needs of the community.

Adequate facilities should be made available to all residents. Through cooperative planning with school, government and community organizations and agencies, a planned facility development program will be realized.
